Mathias Lessort

Scouting Report

There's a little bit of Clint Capela in Lessort, and considering the two were once teammates with Elan Chalon, perhaps that shouldn't be surprising. Lessort isn't quite as tall as Capela, and he doesn't really have the necessary skills to play power forward, so if he's going to make it in the NBA, it'll likely be as a small-ball center or a momentum-changer off the bench. That's a role he should excel in. Lessort has an outstanding motor, can play above the rim and is very effective in pick-and-rolls, something Capela has thrived on with James Harden in Houston. But even Capela would admit playing with one of the game's best creators has made it easy for him to get a bevy of high-percentage looks and dunks in the restricted area, whereas Lessort might not find things quite so simple when he comes over. He's not a great free-throw shooter, either, so a little improvement at the stripe could go a long way in helping him stay on the floor. He'll alter and block shots defensively, get rebounds he probably shouldn't and be in position to finish in traffic should he have effective playmakers at the guard position. The right situation will be key, and he may not make the move to the United States immediately. Look for Lessort to go anywhere from the final few picks of the first round to the middle of the second.
